NewJeans.
The legal battle between NewJeans members and their agency ADOR over their exclusive contract dispute will officially begin on March 7th.
According to legal sources on the 6th, the Seoul Central District Court's 50th Civil Division will hold a hearing for the injunction filed by ADOR against the five NewJeans members to preserve the agency's status and prohibit advertising contract signings.
This injunction hearing will be the first court proceeding since NewJeans announced the termination of their exclusive contract with ADOR last November.
ADOR filed for the injunction last January to prevent NewJeans members from independently signing advertising contracts and conducting activities. At the time, ADOR stated, "We regret that the members are attempting independent entertainment activities, such as soliciting suggestions for a new group name, before receiving legal judgment, as this could constitute a serious breach of contract."
Prior to this, ADOR filed a lawsuit in December last year at the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract in response to NewJeans' contract termination declaration. The hearing for this case is scheduled to be held on April 3rd under the court's 41st Civil Division.
Previously, NewJeans held a press conference on November 28th last year to announce the termination of their exclusive contract with ADOR, and are currently operating independently. They have recently begun soliciting suggestions for a temporary new name, and have appointed Law Firm Sejong as their legal representative in preparation for the legal dispute with ADOR.
